The housemates just left for somewhere. I've got coffee, cereal, and a big stack of Chinese flashcards. The front "yard" needs to be weed wacked (wearing boots and sturdy pants so I don't cut my Achille's tendon like Jackie did). Once I've gotten a bit of studying done, I'm going to work more on those epic character descriptions for my characters. (3 weeks till NaNo!!!) Still feeling slightly put-out, but today should shape up well. I also feel a strong need for more in person human interaction.

But until then, I have the internet!!

Music meme day 8: A song that makes you fall asleep

Loreena McKennitt - The Lady of Shalott

She knows not what the curse may be,
And so she weaveth steadily,
And little other care hath she,
The Lady of Shalott.

AND, in an effort to procrastinate even more, here's another place of the day!

Rânes, France

So, yes, my atlas is rather Eurocentric. And, actually, this picture was the prettiest I found right away for this place. The others were dogs, bathrooms, maps (not that I don't love maps), and exotic dancers. Nothing against exotic dancers, either, but that's not what I'm going for here. Oh, and there was a nice little photo of graves with swastikas on them. The town doesn't even have more than a sentence in English on Wikipedia. (Here's their page in French) But their coat of arms is so cute!!!

Am miraculously not working tonight, so I have time to attend a film screening on campus, and study! And... eating half a pack of blueberry fig bars in a sitting while wasting time on the internet. Yesh.

So, today's place is:

Theniet el Had (or Theniet elHad or Théniet El Haâd), Algeria

Since I know nothing about this place (except that Algeria was once a French colony and they have some Really Cool Linguistics), I did a bit of reading online as well. Alas, I found next to no information. According to a website last updated in 2006, it is a town of roughly 27,000 people. All Wikipedia has to say is that it's located next to the Theniet El Had National Park (where I assume the photo came from). The nearest weather report is from 91 km away. The town is in northern Algeria, near plenty of mountains and forests, and is a popular destination for Algerian hikers.

And that's about it. I always have this mix of sadness and relief when there are still things in the world that can't be learned all about with the internet.
